Micronauts #1 Comic Book (January 1979)(Marvel Comics)

Price: $2.19

The Micronauts comic books feature a group of characters based on the Micronauts toyline. Their first comic appearance was in Micronauts #1 (Marvel, Jan. 1979) with characterizations created by Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden.

The Micronauts began life as comic book characters thanks to a fortuitous accident on Christmas 1977. Marvel Comics writer Bill Mantlo's son Adam opened a new present, a line of the Mego Corporation's Micronauts action figures. Seeing the toys, Bill Mantlo was instantly struck by inspiration to write their adventures. Convincing then editor-in-chief Jim Shooter to get the comics license for these toys, Mantlo was hired to script their series.

The first series of the Micronauts ran from January 1979 to August 1984 and included 59 issues and two Annuals. The series was written by Bill Mantlo and featured art by Michael Golden, Howard Chaykin, Pat Broderick, Gil Kane, Butch Guice and others. As of #38, the series was no longer available from newsstands and was sold via direct distribution only.

Product Description

Forbidden Planet is the granddaddy of tomorrow, a pioneering work whose ideas and style would be reverse-engineered into many cinematic space voyages to come. Leslie Nielsen plays the commander who brings his spacecruiser crew to Planet Altair-4, home to Dr. Morbius (Walter Pidgeon), his daughter (Anne Francis), a dutiful robot named Robby…and to a mysterious terror. Featuring sets of extraordinary scale and the first all-electronic musical soundscape in film history, Forbidden Planet is in a movie orbit all its own.

Yes my friends there is love in every corner of the galaxy even in a place as remote as Altair 4.

Hey movie moshers it's time yet once again for yet another movie on Blu Ray and today I have what could be legitimately argued as the best sci fi film of all-time "Forbidden Planet". Now as most of you already know this cinematic treasure features a mature plot, great special effects, one of filmland's most memorable monsters (Monster From The Id) and of course Robby the Robot. Also at the heart of the story of "Forbidden Planet" is a love story ... actually a love triangle to be precise, between the only female resident of planet Altair 4, Altaira who was played by the late Anne Francis and two intergalactic rocket jocks played by Jack Kelly and Leslie Nielson (yes, the funny old guy from the Naked Gun movies).

Amazon.com essential video

This 1956 pop adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest is one of the best, most influential science fiction movies ever made. Its space explorers are the models for the crew of Star Trek's Enterprise, and the film's robot is clearly the prototype for Robby in Lost in Space. Walter Pidgeon is the Prospero figure, presiding over a paradisiacal world with his lovely young daughter and their servile droid. When the crew of a spaceship lands on the planet, they become aware of a sinister invisible force that threatens to destroy them. Great special effects and a bizarre electronic score help make this movie as fresh, imaginative, and fun as it was when first released.

Them! is a 1954 American black and white science fiction film about man's encounter with a nest of gigantic irradiated ants. It is based on an original story treatment by George Worthing Yates. It was developed into a screenplay by Ted Sherdeman and Russell Hughes for Warner Bros. Pictures Inc., and was produced by David Weisbart and directed by Gordon Douglas. It starred James Whitmore, Edmund Gwenn, Joan Weldon and James Arness.

One of the first of the "nuclear monster" movies, and the first "big bug" film, Them! was nominated for an Oscar for Special Effects and won a Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing. The film starts off as a simple suspense story, with police investigating mysterious disappearances and unexplainable deaths. The giant ants are not even seen until almost a third of the way into the film.

The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is a 1953 science fiction film directed by Eugène Lourié and stars Paul Christian, Paula Raymond and Cecil Kellaway with visual effects by Ray Harryhausen. The film is about an atomic bomb test in the Arctic Circle that unfreezes a hibernating fictional dinosaur, a Rhedosaurus, that begins to wreak havoc in New York City. It was one of the first monster movies that helped inspire the following generation of creature features, coining it with the atomic age.

World Without End is the title of a science fiction B-movie, released in 1956 by Allied Artists. The first science fiction thriller in CinemaScope, it starred Hugh Marlowe, Rod Taylor, Nancy Gates, Christopher Dark, and Nelson Leigh and was directed by Edward Bernds.

This film marked an early 'big-screen' performance of Rod Taylor. The Australian-born actor would soon make his mark in science fiction film history, portraying another time traveler in the George Pal production of The Time Machine.

This set includes 2 individually packaged action figures (subject to change):

Battlestar Galactica (BSG) is an immensely popular franchise of television series and sci-fi films, the first of which aired in 1978. Books, comic books, and video games followed. In Battlestar Galactica, The Twelve Colonies - a civilization of human beings in a far-off sector of the universe - are at war with the cybernetic Cylons. The Cylons lay waste to The Colonies, decimating their worlds and populations, and the survivors flee aboard any spacecraft they can find, including the Battlestar Galactica, the only military ship in the Colonial Fleet to survive the Cylon attack. Battlestar Galactica's renowned commander and his crew then lead the ragtag flotilla of survivors in search of a new home, the mythical planet Earth.

Mission Galactica: The Cyclon Attack - 27 x 40 Movie Poster - Australian Style A

Source: Amazon.com

This is an original poster for the Australian release of Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack in 1978. Many of the original episodes of Battlestar Galactica were paired together to form feature films for overseas release. This is a poster from one such release.

Notes:

Between 1978 and 1980, episodes were edited into three feature length films. The first film, Battlestar Galactica, was an edited version of the pilot "Saga of a Star World", featuring some differences from the original televised episodes, including the death of Baltar. It was released in cinemas in Canada, Australia and Europe before its American TV premiere and, in 1979, it was released theatrically in the US. The second film, Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack, was a re-edited version of the episodes "The Living Legend" and "Fire in Space", which also differed from the broadcast versions, omitting several scenes from both episodes. In 1979, it was released theatrically in Europe and Japan. The third film, Conquest of the Earth, was a similar edit, though this time its source episodes were from Galactica 1980. It was also released theatrically, in 1981, in Europe and Australia.

Robotech - Rook Bartley - Matchbox Vintage 1985 Action Figure

Source: Amazon.com

One of the original figures from the Robotech toy line produced by Matchbox in 1985. Now a very rare item this Rook Bartley comes in it's original packaging.

As a young teenager, Rook was a member of the Blue Angels biker gang along with her boyfriend, Romy, and other juveniles. When Romy decided to break up the Blue Angels because of pressure from a rival gang, the Red Snakes, Rook tried to take on the Snakes alone and was beaten and left for dead. Because of this, Rook ran away from home, leaving her mother and sister behind. She later joined a band of freedom fighters led by Mars Division Lieutenant Scott Bernard.

Rook is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant (as seen in the episode "Lonely Soldier Boy") taking on several thugs at one time.

She is also an expert Cyclone Rider using VR-038 Bartley ("'38 Lite") cyclone. In the middle of the series Rook acquires a Red VFA-6Z Alpha Fighter & rides a VR-052 Battler Cyclone.
Over the course of the series she begins to develop feelings for Rand, but initially denies it. Toward the end of the series she admits her feelings to herself, and to Rand, and the two become a couple. In the now de-canonized Robotech book "End of the Circle", it is revealed that Rook and Rand marry and have a daughter.

A "most impressive" addition to your Star Wars collection!

With this Star Wars TIE Fighter Replica, one of the Galactic Empire's deadliest ships is yours to own! Scanned from an actual screen-used model used during the making of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, this TIE Fighter FX Model will be a "most impressive" addition to your Star Wars collection! The Star Wars Episode IV Imperial TIE Fighter Replica is a limited edition not to exceed 1,000 pieces that measures 17 3/4-inches tall x 13 3/4-inches wide x 14 1/8-inches long. Constructed of high-quality resin, injection-molded ABS, and machined metal, it features LED lighting effects and includes a numbered plaque and certificate of authenticity. It's truly awesome!

In order to make the most accurate replica of this iconic ship, a number of different reference resources were used. More than 90% of the model kit parts that were used on the original model were identified. A digital scan of a TIE model in the Lucasfilm archives was used to map the parts, verify the dimensions, and scratch build the model kit parts that either could not be found or identified. An original TIE Fighter that is known to have been used in the filming of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was used to match the correct colors.

Deployed throughout the galaxy from the hangars of the Galactic Empire's awesome fleet of Star Destroyers and the dreaded Death Star were the standard starfighters of the Imperial arsenal, the Thermal Ion Engine crafts known as the TIE Fighters. These small, one-man, short-range ships were fast and maneuverable, but lacked a hyperdrive and thus had to be deployed from hangars and launch bases. They had two fire-linked laser cannons, mounted on the ball-shaped cockpit.

Industrial Light and Magic's (ILM) Colin Cantwell created the concept model with the iconic ball-shaped cockpit and hexagonal wings. The combat scenes were meant to be reminiscent of World War II dogfight footage, and the film editors used actual World War II air combat footage for the filming of the special effects.
